Hosting Overview

Monday 30 November 2009 @ 4:29 am

Hosting, a website and not a party, is the process of sustaining a website on a server that is typically owned by an outside party. Some websites are hosted on servers owned by the website owner but the majority of websites are hosted on servers that are owned by hosting companies. These companies can be found almost anywhere on the internet these days with a simple search in your favorite search engine such as Google or Yahoo. You can search for these entities by typing in ‘website hosting companies’ or ‘website hosting plans.’

Website hosting plans are not too expensive to purchase. In fact, some plans can cost roughly $2 per month, which can provide a website with plenty of space to post content such as blog posts, articles, photos and videos. Some of the most trusted hosting companies around today will offer their customers 24/7 customer support for technical problems and for any questions that need to be answered on a daily basis.

If you run a blog or website you should consider purchasing a hosting plan so that your website will be able to post as much content as needed. Hosting plans are especially important for businesses that have a website or a corporate blog. Hosting companies try to guarantee 99 percent up time. This means that your website will be active and accessible 99 percent of the time instead of inaccessible to your customers and employees. If your website is rarely active on the website you should consider switching hosting companies.

Hosting a Video Game Forum

Thursday 26 November 2009 @ 5:11 am

Video games are some of the most popular hobbies in the country today, even with the struggling economy, as used game sales continue to rise. The video game industry is still going strong, and this is evidenced by the sale of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The game sold $333 million worth of games in the first day of its release and over $500 million worth of games in its first five days of being on sale to the public. Video games can have technical problems with them and there are also cheats for these games that people do not know off the top of their head. The best place to go for this information is a video game forum.

Video game forums can be started by almost anyone and operated by almost anyone, including video game companies and fans alike. Here you will find the answers to almost all of your questions regarding specific video games. Questions that can be answered include how to beat a certain level, how to create a character, how to find certain items, what certain cheats will do to the game play and so much more. Forums allow people to post questions and respond to questions posted by other people needing answers.

If you are planning on beginning a video game forum you should consider getting a hosting plan that is large enough to hold all of the content posted on the site. The content includes questions, answers, blogs, articles, videos and much more for people to view and peruse.

Hosting a Wedding Photograph Site

Thursday 26 November 2009 @ 5:05 am

Wedding photographers are the most important part of the wedding reception aside from the bride and the groom because the photographer is the one who documents the important day in pictures and sometimes even video. Their work is showcased on their personal website, which will feature wedding receptions, christenings, family events and much more. The website for a photographer will have to hold a ton of content, especially for photographers who post the pictures from all of the events they work each week and weekend.

This means that their website will need a large hosting plan from a reputable hosting company. The photographer will need to purchase one of the largest hosting plans a hosting company has to offer because they will be posting pictures, which are larger files than written content files, on a regular basis. The company will need to be incredibly reputable for the photographer to use their hosting plan because if they are not then they might experience major technical problems with their website.

A reliable hosting company can make all the difference in the world when running a large blog or website, especially one that is hosting a ton of pictures. The website will probably also allow customers to purchase copies of the pictures, format the pictures, and do much more in the shop section of the website. In order for the shop section of the site to work properly there must be a strong hosting plan in place or the site would collapse when hundreds of people are logged in at once purchasing pictures.

Hosting Small Websites

Wednesday 25 November 2009 @ 2:21 am

There are millions of websites on the internet today that deal with various topics including news, sports, law, real estate, travel, cars, planes, tanks, toys, books, movies and much more. Some of these websites have loads of content that ranges from written content to audio to video to pictures. No matter what type of content is on your website or blog you will need a hosting plan to host your site or blog so that it does not crash. Not all small sites should have a hosting plan but some of them do have a hosting plan in order to get the tag name out of the URL address such as wordpress.com or blogspot.com.

Small websites or blogs do not need a large hosting plan whatsoever, which means that the operator of the site or blog will not need to spend an arm and a leg for hosting. Their monthly fees will be anywhere from $2-$5 for hosting since they are purchasing such a small plan. What does it mean to have a small website? Well, for one it means that there will not be too much content posted to the site. Instead of content being posted once or twice per day the operator of the site might post content once or twice per week and no more.

Small websites that want to have their own domain name include ones where people post their resume, education history, and work history and nothing else. They might also post a blog or two if they are looking for a job in the writing profession.

How to Choose a Hosting Company

Wednesday 25 November 2009 @ 2:00 am

Hosting is one of the most important things a company can purchase if they wish to operate a blog or website. But one of the most difficult things for a company to do is choose the perfect hosting company for the hosting plan that they need. Why? The answer is simple; there are thousands of hosting companies on the internet these days, which makes it difficult for anyone operating a blog or website to choose which one is reputable to use for a hosting plan. Here we will discuss the things one should look for when choosing a hosting company.

The first thing one should look for when choosing a hosting company and the most important thing to look for is reputation. Has the company been in business for more than one year? Can the company provide references? Has there been any complaints filed against the company with the local Better Business Bureau? If all of these questions can be answered in the favor of the company, meaning the answers do not give the company a bad reputation, then this company might be the best one for your website or blog hosting plan.

The second thing one should look for when choosing a hosting company is customer service they offer. Do they offer 24/7 customer service, especially if it is a company based in another time zone from your website. Can their customer service department be reached via telephone, email, and fax? If so, then this company might be your best choice for your website or blog hosting plan.

Hosting for an All-Audio Blog

Sunday 22 November 2009 @ 4:57 am

As blogs continue to become more and more popular with each passing day, one form has yet to really take off, and that is the all-audio blog. There are blogs on the internet today that mix written content, pictures, video and audio all into one. There are blogs on the internet today that focus solely on written content, or video, or audio or even just pictures. There are a couple of all-audio blogs on the internet today that literally only post audio-related content each day of the week. This content can be music, scripts, readings and podcasts.

Podcasts have become popular with the advancement of the internet. A podcast is a recorded audio segment with at least one person, known as the host, who talks about politics, sports, the news, the weather and other topics. These audio files are posted to a website or blog where thousands or millions of people can listen to them each day. If you are posting podcasts to your website along with written content then you will need a decent sized hosting plan to allow for plenty of space on a server.

If you only want to post audio files to your blog or website then you will need a very large hosting plan to do so. Why? Audio files are much larger than strictly written content because they include voices, music, and sometimes other audio clips interspersed within the post. A hosting plan large enough to hold an all-audio blog might cost a little more than a regular hosting plan.

Hosting for an All-Picture Blog

Sunday 22 November 2009 @ 4:49 am

Blogs are becoming one of the hottest items on the internet today because they allow people who do not have enough money to create their own website have an outlet for their thoughts, ideas, talents and other feelings. A popular category for blogs today is an all-picture blog. There are practically no posts with content on these types of blogs, which makes some people happy because they do not have to read anything or read content that they do not like. Instead, they can look at pictures of a person’s vacation, school, family, parties and much more.

An all-picture blog can be difficult to host on a generic blog website such as blogger or wordpress, where your website URL has wordpress or blogspot attached to the name. These sites might not have enough space on them for you to host an all-picture blog. If you begin to run out of room you might have to delete some of your previous posts, which can be a major hassle. If you are looking to start an all-picture blog you should look into a hosting plan that will give you enough space on their server to host pictures of large sizes when you post them to your site.

One site that uses a massive hosting plan on their own server is Facebook. Facebook needs a ton of space because of all the content posted by its users, which includes written content and pictures. Your blog might not need its own server but it should get a hosting plan if you want to put hundreds of pictures on the site.

Interpreting Hosting Ads Part II

Saturday 21 November 2009 @ 4:30 am

This is part two of our two part blog series about how to interpret hosting plan ads that are littering the internet these days. There are thousands of hosting plan companies on the internet today; some that sell straight hosting plans and some that are reseller hosting companies. If you come across a reseller hosting company you might want to think twice before purchasing server space from them because they originally purchased it and are ‘renting’ it out. Determining whether or not the company is a reseller or not is step three of interpreting a hosting plan advertisement.

The next step is to talk to friends you know of that run a website with a hosting company. Ask them if they have ever heard of the company you are reading about or if they could recommend a company for you, such as the one they are using at the moment. If they do not know of the company you came across you should keep asking around for some information. Browse the company’s website to get a feel for the company history, what services they offer, and if they have any customer testimonials on the site.

The final step in reading a hosting plan advertisement is to dissect the legal mumbo jumbo presented on the ad, if there is any at all. If there is legal wording present then you should read it over closely to make sure that you do not have to sign any unreasonable contracts to acquire the company’s services.

Interpreting Hosting Ads

Saturday 21 November 2009 @ 4:24 am

Everywhere you look on the internet these days you will surely find advertisements for every product under the sun. There are ads for free website creation, blog writing, article writing, t-shirts, books, tutors, food, weight loss pills, gyms and even hosting plans. It might be difficult to disseminate between what a valid hosting plan ad is and what ad is a scam or simply spam. These ads are not as difficult to read as they might seem to be; you just need to know what the terminology means and if the company is actually legitimate.

The first thing to take notice of when looking at a hosting plan ad is the price. Immediately look at the price because the price will tell you right off the bat whether or not you should continue to read the ad or even click on the URL address provided in the ad. If the hosting plan costs any more than $5 per month for a small amount of space on the company’s server then the ad is not worth reading and it is definitely not worth taking a look at the company’s website. Do not waste your time.

The next thing to look for is the name of the company. You do not have to purchase a hosting plan from a company you have heard the name of before. There is nothing wrong with using a company whose name you have never heard of. Type the name into a search engine along with the word ’scam’ to make sure that the company is legit. If no information comes up about a potential scam then you can proceed.
